A young girl walked into her empty house. She laid her book bag on the kitchen talble and shivered. It was cold in the house, it was winter, however it was always cold to her. So the young girl did her homework and awaited the arival of her mother. When her mother got home, neither of them spoke a word. Before the mother walked too her room after an hour of watching t.v., she kissed the young girl on her head and said, "I love you and I'm sorry". The girl said nothing. Later that night, the mother woke and heard a soft wimper from the other room. She opened her door and went to the bathroom where the young girl lay on the floor, crying her heart out.
"I had my heart broken today Mommy. I had my heart broken really bad." cried the young girl.
"Tell me all about this boy and what he did to you" said the mother.
"He is very caring and loving; he always hugs me real tight and kisses me on the cheek. He never teases me even when I fall; he just picks me up and holds me softly. He knows I get cold easily and always wraps his arms around me or puts us in his big sweatshirt so I don't get cold. He makes sure that I eat at lunch and breakfast because he seems to know that we don't have much money. He always stands up for me when everyone else is asking him why he chose me. He never has made me feel uncomfortable and is extreamly respectfull; and when I get scared at night, I can call him and he will always pick up and talk to me and soothe me to sleep."
"He sounds nice" said the Mother as she sat down next to the young girl and stroked her hair. "What could this nice boy have done to make you upset"?
"He hasn't done anything at all yet. He isn't in my life right now. I have tried to find him myself but he should know i get scared of the outside world. WHY HASN'T HE FOUND ME YET! I CAN'T FIND HIM! I just- I just can't! It's too hard. He is always moving around. Does he even know what I'm going through? He needs to mend my heart that he hasn't found yet!" The girl burried her face inside her hands and bawled hader. She began to get more violent with her tears.
"Calm down, it will work out. I know you are having a rough time right now but this boy and you are supposed to be together so it will work out in the end. Just think what he is going through right now without anyone to hold, without anyone to care about, without anyone to love, without amazing you." The mother softly kissed her child on the cheek and cupped her chin and raised her head. The girl sniffled and the silver hurricain on her face turned into a silent silver snowfall. She hugged her mother tightly and her mother hugged back.
"Thank you Mommy," and then the girl wispered in her Mother's ear, "I love you too." She burried her face in her mother's cheast to wipe away her pain as the mother rubbed her back. "One day I will bring him so you can meet him and I can hug you like this when I'm pregnet and tell you you were right." A tiny smile came upon her face and her breathing slowed down a bit. Now she was calm.
"Actually" said the mother sqeezing her daugter tighter, "you won't be able to."
The girl looked up with sad eyes, "why?"
"Because," said the mother, "I'm dying"
The girl's silent snow tears poured out again and she hugged her mother as tight as she could.
"I know you will find this boy after I am dead but i know i will see you two together from heaven and will be the guarian angel for my grandchild. Ok?"
"Ok, Mommy," wispered the girl.
Five months passed and the mother died from cancer. The day that happened. the girl lost all hope and decided she was going to kill herself on the night after they burried her mother so she could say goodbye before faceing death. She knew her mother would be in heaven but she didn't think heaven would want an ugly, boring girl like herself. So she told herself that she would go to, another place.
Two days later was the funeral. It was at night. In the chapel there were a thousand candels and a soft hum of a piano. The girl went to the side in a room that was filled with candles. she lit a candle for her dead mother and prayed for her. She prayed that ehr mother would find an angel and send him to earth to comfort her.
The church was freezing and the girl hugged her arms but it didn't work. On chilly nights after she found out about her mother's illness, her mother would sleep with her and keep the girl warm. There was no one to do that tonight.
The next morning was the burrial where the relatives would gather around the grave of her mother and mourn. The girl cried her eyes out just like that night she and her mother became closer. It was a freezing cold, foggy morning, and everyone held on to eachother to keep warm, but the girl had no one. Everyone forgot about her. She knelt beside the 6 foot grave and threw a white rose into it. She knew that tonight was the last night for her, but she knew no one would care. Just then she felt warmth on her back and felt a thick material go on. she looked up and saw a boy with a soft face smiling at her. "I think you cought a cold" he said as he held out a hand. She took it and stood up.
"Who are you?" she asked slightly blushing. " How did you know my mother? I didn't see you at the funeral last night"
He smiled and said, " My father was a good friend of hers, we got the invitation for this just last night. My father got the next plane to here for us so we could be here today. The Post man said that the invitation was lost and that they found it on the floor behind the counter. It was the strangest place to find it he said since that counter was only for pakages. I figured it was just late for some reason."
"Oh," said the girl. "Well I guess I better get going, here is your coat". She reached to take off the coat but the boy grabbed her hand.
"You know, my Dad was asked in the letter to come and bring you back to our house so that we could take care of you." He put his arm around her and walked her to a black car then opened the door for her. She scooted in and he followed. He put his arm back around her. " You look really cold, I'm just making sure you don't get any more sick." He smiled and blushed then a man walked in and started the car. Greetings were exchanged and names were learnt as the girl set out for her new life.
Later that night the boy cared for the girl and tended to her cold. He leaned over the girl around three AM and wispered in her ear," I'm here, and I'll protect you, don't worry." Then he went in his chair and fell asleep. She opened her eyes and smiled. She knew that this boy was the boy. He came to her and rescued her from her killing herself. He hugged her tight the entire time to his house so she would stay warm and he had just promised to protect her. She thought it was strange that the Postoffice had lost his invitation but he had gotten it just in time and that her mother had said nothing to her about the girl living with anyone, but all these concerns just melted away and she fell asleep again.
